I AM DEDICATED to the health of men, couples & families

G'day, I’m Simon Niblock. I’m a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist dedicated to helping men and their partners find peace and direction within their relationships. I’m passionate about helping my clients find peaceful resolution to some of life’s biggest challenges. I truly believe that it is possible to create a healthy balance between being authentic to yourself and creating a positive, loving relationship with your partner and those most precious to you.

Your relationship with your partner and family is unique and deserves to be treated with respect and dignity. My approach to therapy respects the complex journey that couples and parents have to navigate and the stress that often comes with trying to ‘keep things together’. My client’s describe my approach to therapy as intuitive, insightful and pragmatic. Preserving a sense of humor is also an important element in my practice.

Offering a safe and collaborative space to create an authentic, lasting change in the lives of those that seek therapeutic help is what motivates me professionally. Couple’s and their families have a vast range of experiences and expectations. It is encouraging to see all of these factors play a role in evolving their relationship into something meaningful and fulfilling. I am an advocate for fairness within relationships while campaigning for men’s mental health research and anti-violence programs.

I hold a Masters of Arts in Counseling degree from St. Edward’s University and a Bachelor's Degree in Applied Social Sciences from the Australian College of Applied Psychology. I am a trained Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist (EFT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I have worked extensively with worked with men, couples, and groups in a wide range of agency and private practice environments in Austin, Texas and Sydney, Australia.

My professional affiliations include the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), the Austin Association of Marriage & Family Association (AAMFT) and the International Center of Excellence for Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT).

I was born and raised in New Zealand and have lived and worked in a number of countries including Australia, UK and the US. After a successful twenty-year plus career in the corporate high tech world, I recognized a growing demand for competent male therapists in the mental health profession. At the youthful age of 49 years, I combine a diverse range of life experiences and a dash of maturity in my practice. My greatest lessons in life have come from the humbling, yet privileged roles of being a loving husband and father of two amazing teenage sons.

When I’m not working, I love to relax by taking the motorcycle out for a long ride. I love international travel, trekking and camping. Closer to home, I enjoy cooking for friends and family and in the thick of a never ending home renovation. I’m a devoted fan of the New Zealand All Blacks rugby team and occasionally partake in b-grade Kung-Fu movie binges when the opportunity arises.
